Here we go

This is Jude as a 4 month old baby...according to the time stamp on the jump drive.

This is him at almost two and a half.

Here he is at four and a half.

Five

Guessing this was right before we came to China.

And the day we got him....

First week home....

Home a few months....

.......learning to trust

.............finding a use for the other kid in the house

........playing a team sport for the first time

.....playing dress-up for the first time ( the resemblance to Cheech Marin is purely coincidental.)

......companionship

And so we find ourselves at almost a year home. With a date set in May, for Jude's surgery.  Heading into uncharted waters (for all of us) again.
Jude will under-go bilateral disarticulation of both legs, at the knee, followed by prosthetics, this summer.
Those of you that have met Jude know that he is amazingly mobile, down on his knees, despite all of his joint issues. But the doctors we have consulted don't project him to stay that way, as he physically matures, but to become wheelchair bound. So, after consulting multiple physicians, and after a lot of prayer, we feel that the best quality of life possible, over the length of his life, will be achieved through this surgery and the subsequent use of prosthetics.
I am asking for prayers, any time you think of us, because this is an enormous undertaking, on many levels. Trying to prepare anyone for this surgery would be difficult. Trying to prepare a child, even more so. And this child has known his parents for roughly a year, missing a lot of those trust-building moments that occur in a parent-child relationship that exists from birth. Now add in the fact that the child has only been exposed to this language for a year. With a hearing impairment thrown in on top, slowing down his comprehension as well as his ability to express himself.
Prayer changes things.
We believe that.
And we ask that you lift us up in prayer....constantly if you can. :)

Christmas festivities

Fellas building a Lowe's Build and Grow toy train with Dad...
Reading the instructions...
First photo with Santa!
ALSO first photo with Santa...Owen would never do this before, and wasn't going to do it here, but.....Jude did it, therefore......

The boys went with a group from Owen's school to see a play. Afterward, we all went to Bass Pro Shop to enjoy the freebies! Here is the Snow Brawl!

And the carousel...

Owen's class party! Thanks, Andrea, for thinking to have enough supplies for the random sibling that showed up! :)  Christmas bingo happening here...
Making Christmas cards for local nursing home residents....
Owen, intently coloring, while Jude and Brody do whatever that is they are doing in the background....
And tonight, the Christmas concert. Below is Owen's class's part....I kid you not.

"Luke 2:8-14

New International Version (NIV)

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”"

I'll let you know how it goes...;)

Cookies and snow

We had a cookie-making date with our friends "the Moba-lees".

And a good time was had by all! :)
And then it snowed Friday....

Snow angels....Jude's first one, I believe!

Had to harken back to the low-tech days of my childhood, when plastic bags were the only water-proof gear available, for Jude's footwear. It still works!

Good times, folks!

Thanksgiving

Here are some Thanksgiving pics, in random order. I do not have the tech capability to fix the order in which they loaded to the blog. :) Sorry for the confusion.

I don't believe I need to explain why Uncle Brian is considered to be AWESOME. (By us ALL! 'Cause if he's doing THIS with them, it automatically means Momma and Daddy are off duty! Yay, Uncle Brian! May your back hold up FOREVER! :)

Below is my brother Doc, with one of his new grand babies.

More awesomeness from Uncle Brian.

Aunt Sonya, the generous hostess who makes holidays and other family time happen!

Uncle Geno, lovin' up on Jude.

A trip to the car to get toys to play with.
Some of my nephews and niece

Nephews, again! Jacob, Jared, and Ross.
