King Pin!

We went bowling today. It was Owen's first time, and the first time Jim and I had been in over 15 years.  We had a lot of fun!
We played two games, and Owen improved his score and his ball speed from one game to the next.  He scored a 57 on the first game, with a ball speed of 1.7 mph.

He scored a 61 on the second game with a ball speed of 5.1 mph.

Is this not a hoot?!

Memories of Madagascar

The setting: Owen has built an obstacle course for his trains made out of Legos, placed on the coffee table. He has given Jim the yellow train named Molly and has assigned himself the silver train named Spencer.
Owen: Hey, Molly!
Jim (in a high falsetto imitating a girl): Yes, Spencer!
...Owen seems taken aback, then restates his greeting...
Owen: Hey, Molly!
Jim (in falsetto again): Yes, Spencer!
...Owen turns to get up, muttering to himself "I've got to get a boy train, 'cause Molly's freaking me out!"....:)
                                                           This is Owen with Spencer....

I'm addicted....

....to this woman's writing. http://onethousandgifts.com/ Does everyone else already know about her, and I'm just completely out of it? My sister-in-law (thanks, Judy!) sent me this book in the mail, and I'm barely a third of the way through it, but I'm already thinking..."Who needs to read this? Who would love this? Who can I tell?"
When I first began the book, I kept reading because the author talks of being imperfect, and can I ever identify with that. That gets my attention every time. But the more I read, the more the rhythm of her writing grows on me...it's just lovely, on so many levels. You should check it out! You can read the first chapter on her webpage, I think.

Wasn't it....

...a beautiful day out yesterday?
We spent some time outside playing in the sand.

And when we were finished here....

...we went out front and proceeded to terrorize the ants on our neighbor's driveway.  It's amazing what a 4 year old can create with a stick and a water bottle cap! Owen calls them "booty traps", and set them up for the big red ants.  I believe he is referring to a booby trap, but after pondering all the various ways that conversation could go south, I opted not to correct him. :)
